The viewing of lunar eclipse on Saturday night organised by ‘Sahabat Astronomi’ at the Kuching Waterfront received good response from the public.
Planetarium Sultan Iskandar assistant curator Alfean Aziz said the programme was to enlighten the public on natural phenomena such as the eclipse.
“This rare phenomenon is a rare opportunity, thus Sahabat Astronomi comes in to provide the public a better chance to view it,” said Alfian.
Three astronomy telescopes were provided apart from a briefing on the natural phenomenon to some 30 club members.
The lunar eclipse happens during full moon when the sun, earth and moon are located in a parallel position.
“The lunar eclipse tonight is the second occurrence this year after last June,” he added.
The event which started around 7.30pm lasted until 1am the following day.
